As a posting by John Zolnowsky pointed out I was not specific enough in my definition of what was required. So this contest is null and void. The target of the contest was the MOVM.W instruction which is the only one to automatically sign-extend to a value larger than the operand size. A few posters did reconize this. One could also consider cases with multiply and divide where even though a ".W" is specified the result alters more than the low word of the destination data register. But this is not unexpected as is the case for MOVM.W. Many suggested the move quick instruction, but the user manuals clearly state that only an attribute size of long (.L) is legal for that instruction. However, the abmiguity of my question would have allowed such an answer. -- Dave Trissel Motorola Austin
