[comp.sys.m68k] Integrated Solutions V8S disk drive upgrade?

altman@skink.ino.ucar.edu (Don Altman) (06/23/89)

I'm planning to add additional disk capacity to an Integrated Solutions
V8S system. The following questions arise:

1) Is it possible to use one of the "embedded SCSI" disks with my
existing configuration? In particular, would a Wren V work?
2) What hardware and software mod.s are needed to make it work?

3) Would it be better to stay with the Adaptec 4070 & ST506-target setup?
4) If so, what disks are available? Are there any quicker or larger than
the Maxtor 1140?

5) What formatting constants should be used? Must any board straps be
changed?
6) What are the approximate costs?

My current configuration is:
16 MHz 68020, 2 MB memory card, OS rev 3.05, Wren II, Adaptec 4070,
Integrated Solutions VME-SCSI Host Adapter Assy #102107, S/N V05129

According to the manual, the Host Adapter supports ANSI X3T9.2 SCSI EXCEPT
for command chaining, disconnect, and reconnect.

Please respond by e-mail. I'll be glad to summarize the info if there's
interest. Thanks in advance!
