I remember seeing discussion here on a 68K based part with onboard ROM or RAM, serial and parallel ports: your basic single chip device controller. This was not the soon to be released '020 based part from Motorola, but an '010 based device from (I think) Signetics. Of course I didn't need one then, and do now, so I'd appreciate it if anyone could email me the part number and manufacturer(s), also if anyone has any experience using one, I'd like to hear any testimonials or problems you may have had. I'll summarize any such responses back to the net. Don Schmitz schmitz@fas.ri.cmu.edu

I think the chip your looking for is the Signetics M68070 single chip computer. It is based on a 68010 core with on board DMA, serial port, parallel ports, etc. They also have a companion chip that has a DRAM interface and complete video controller on board. Take these two chips, add DRAM and a couple of discrete logic gates and volia! a complete 68K computer. They have an evaluation board like this with OS-9 in ROM. Give your local Singetics dealer a ring. They have data books on these devices. Jeff Easton UUCP: !mailrus!sharkey!aucis!easton Zenith Data Systems OEM Engineering

Thanks to everyone who responded, I've gotten about 10 copies of the above from various places. I'll post if we actually use the chip. Don
