Does anybody know if Motorola or any other companies making the MC68010, manufacture one that can operate at 16 Mhz? If so, where can I get a hold of one? Derek (dds3769@ultb.isc.rit.edu)

According to the Motorola Technical Summary data sheet, the following model uP's are available at the following operating frequencies: Device Operating Frequency (MHz) 8 10 12 16 20 33 MC68000 x x x x MC68008 x x MC68010 x x x MC68020 x x x x MC68030 x x x x So it appears that as far as Motorola is concerned, the answer to your question is "no". I don't know about other suppliers... Jon Panek panek@hp-and.HP.COM

Both the question and answer are fascinating to me. _WHAT_ other suppliers? This is of more than academic interest, as we believed Moto when they said "The 68010 will always be about 10% more expensive than the 68000". Now, I can't divulge our prices (even if I knew), but the delta is more like 200% from where we sit, so... _If_ there are any other suppliers I'd love to hear about them. I don't know what speed ratings these chips carry, but you can call your local rep and find out. I suggest you get ahold of a copy of the _IC_Master_ and learn how to use it. That very ability has saved my life on a number of occassions. Also, Motorola has a part called the MC68332, which is an embedded controller based on a 16.67MHz MC68010 core CPU. It has many other features, some of which come from the MC68020. This is a very nice part (but probably _VERY_ expensive). By the way, there is a company called Krueger that sells refurbished ICs. Apparently they remove the parts from PC boards and clean them up. There ad in _IC_Master_ says that they carry 68010s and 68020s. These are probably just Motorola's parts, but I'm sure they are cheaper than new ones. I don't know, but I think Hit still make the 68000 range, they certainly didn't get any further. In their 1987 catalog, Signetics listed 8, 10, and 12.5 MHZ versions of the 68010... perhaps by now they also have a 16? -- ****************************************************************************** * If what I say is not correct, * Steve Croft, Qualimetrics, Inc. * * then it's not what I meant! * (ucbvax!ucdavis!csusac!qmet!sc) * ******************************************************************************

According to the 89 IC Master, the the 68010 has three manufacturers, Motorola (natch), Signetics (P/N SCN68010), and SGS-Thomson (P/N MK68010). Toshiba was not mentioned, but that could have been an ommision. Why not call a few Motorola distributors and ask if they know of a 68010 at 16MHz? I have found Hall-Mark really helpful when i was trying to find a part that may or may not have existed. If you need phone numbers for Signetics, SGS, Motorola, or Hall-Mark, send me mail and tell me what area you are in. | |anderss@uplog.se |-- |Real life: Anders Sjolund Email: anderss@uplog.se |Snail mail: TeleLOGIC Uppsala AB Phone: +46 18 189409 | Box 1218 Fax: +46 18 132039 | S - 751 42 Uppsala, Sweden -- Mark Seiffert, Metairie, LA. uucp: rex!mgse!marks bitnet: marks%mgse@REX.CS.TULANE.EDU internet: marks%mgse@rex.cs.tulane.edu
