This message is posted by a friend, please reply directly by mail. Thanks! ---------------- We are using a Motorola 3000 series UNIX box and would like to connect to our mainframe running MVS. We talked with Motorola and they do have a card and software to provide support all types of mainframe communications one can imagine (e.g. 3270, LU6.2). However, the problem is that the package appears as an IBM 3274 controller to the mainframe and we want to connect to the mainframe via our local controller instead of replacing it. To wit, we want to be able to talk to our mainframe through the 3270 coax connection to the controller. We have 2 requirements: (1) physical connection: we want to connect to the local controller using 3270 coax connection instead of SDLC/BYSYNC connection as provided by the Motorola card; what we are looking for is a VME card that provides 3270 coax connection; (2) software support: we would like to have LU6.2 support (our mainframe software talks LU6.2), i.e. we do NOT want to write our own LU6.2 driver (or whatever you call it); on top of that, it would be great if we can get 3278 emulation as well; since we are running X11, we would like to have one window emulating 3278 and talks to the mainframe as one interactive session and have another window running our UNIX software which talks to our mainframe software using LU6.2. Is there any beast out there that can fill the order? It seems that there are a good number of PC-mainframe communication packages available for PC-UNIX. Is there something similar available for the 68030/VME bus combination? Is there any reasonable soultion or are we dreaming? I remembered a company called CSI (Communications Solutions Inc.) which sold UNIX software handling SNA/3270 connections. However, I tried to call today and found out the number belongs to someone else. Are they still in business? Anyone know their new number? Thanks in advance for any information provided! Again, please reply by email since we do not have access to netnews yet! -- Peter Yeung Amdahl Canada Ltd., Software Development Center 2000 Argentia Road, Plaza 2, Suite 300 Mississauga, Ont.
