[comp.sys.m68k] 68230 specs

rh2y+@andrew.cmu.edu (Russell E. Hoffman, II) (08/18/90)

Anybody know where one can obtain the Motorola Semiconductor ref. for the
68230 or at least get a book of some kind that has a chapter in it on the
68230? I am upgrading to a new computer that had a 6821 PIA in it, and now
I will have to re-write some driver stuff to handle the 68230 instead of
the 6821.

Thanx in advance,

The specs for the MC68230 are to be found in the M68000 Family Reference
manual, Motorola publication FR68K/D in chapter 8. This manual
can be obtained from your local Motorola Semiconductor Sales Office
or through the Motorola Literature Distriibution Center, Tempe, Az,
Phone 602-994-6561.

I'm building a 68230 board for my IBM PC-AT clone, and I got my copy of the
68230 data by looking up "Motorola Semiconductor Products" in the white
pages phone book, and just asking for it. What you want to ask for is the
"Advance Information data for the 68230 PI/T". Their 68000 uP products book
has a few pages with electrical specifications, timing diagrams, and brief
register summary. The 68230 is *such* a complex chip, though, that you really
need the advance information book with detailed register descriptions.

A really neat chip. Too bad Intel doesn't have anything for 80xxx processors
more complex than a 8255 .....

Good luck!
