I have a Delta 1147 box with a number of MVME332XT serial cards and have found a couple of problems. They seem susceptable to induced noise on the RS-232 ports. In particular, I have found that with a long (~15m), unterminated cable attached to a login port, the card will occasionly wedge itself. The symptoms are that the RUN light goes hard on and all processes attached to any port on that card become unkillable. The problem is not readily re-producable, which is why I think it is induced noise. The recently posted RNKILL program (<1990Aug14.185107.11587@athena.mit.edu> in alt.sources) also manages to wedge 332XT boards. In this case, the FAIL light is lit. I have not worked out the exact failure mechanism. Has anyone else run into any of these problems and found a solution? Does anyone know of a way of restarting the boards without re-booting? (I can successfully reset the boards by ABORTing to 147bug and issuing a reset sequence to the 332XT, then return to Unix, but this doesn't work). I am running R3V6, using RTS/CTS flow control on all ports. -- Peter Jeremy (VK2PJ) peter@stca77.stc.oz.AU Alcatel STC Australia ...!uunet!stca77.stc.oz!peter 240 Wyndham St peter%stca77.stc.oz@uunet.UU.NET ALEXANDRIA NSW 2015
