[comp.sys.m68k] 68332 with mmu?

deraadt@cpsc.ucalgary.ca (deraadt) (11/12/90)

Is an MMU'd version of the 332 ever going to exist? Does it allready
exist?
Thanks.

Is it a typo? Should the '_' be an 's'?? :-) | deraadt@cpsc.ucalgary.ca

I'm not sure if you mean an MMU on board or what, but why would a 68332 need
an MMU? It's not really meant to be used in that mode. Using the programmable
chip select pins are a god-send for embedded systems where the 332 was meant
to be used. I would imagine that if you were to not use any of the chip
selects so that the original functions were available (all those extra
address lines and bus control signals) then you could use one of the available
MMU chips out now. Why would you want to? Not using the chip selects is
like cutting off your legs so you can enter a wheelchair race. You could
do it, but you really shouldn't be in that race to begin with.

I believe the version with an MMU is called the 340 and I think it is available
now.

The 68340 doesn't have an MMU either. It has a different set of I/O
capabilites than the 68332. I don't have the specs here, or I'd post
more info on it.
