I'm getting crazy trying to get gcc 1.38 running on my Honeywell Bull X20-Superteam, a 68020 machine with sysv 2.2. I started this task about two months ago, with gcc 1.37.1, but nothing came out. I compiled gas 1.36 with the coff patches, and it run almost fine. Gcc 1.37.1 simply didn't compile anything in the right way: I guessed that the trouble lay in the way gcc was making every function frame/call... after a week or so I gave up :-(... A few days ago I ftped gcc 1.38, and started again. Incredibly, I was able to reach the stage1. Immediatly I tried to compile the simple program (an "Hello world" with a function call!) that killed the previous version, and it ran fine. So I started recompiling gcc with itself keeping my breath... Everything went right, the gen_* progs ran fine... but... whenever the newly compiled binary started to recompile gnulib2 it got (cpp got) a fatal signal 11... Sigh. I tried almost everything, guessing some value to put in the conf files (:-( what a bad implementation...), disabling __builtin_alloca (??? desperation!), but nothing! I was flying... and i fell down! Take note that the cc compiled version runs almost well, without any problem...
