[sci.electronics] Theremins, proximity sensors

collinge@uvicctr.UUCP (02/17/87)

Dear, Most Knowledgable, Netters:
Have any of you built a Theremin or capacitive proximity sensor?
I want to make a proximity sensor with a range of about 3 or 4 feet. Any
hints, tips? Circuits, even? Any suggestions as to the most appropriate
frequency? I suspect that it would be the resonant frequency of the human
body - does anyone know what that might be?

Kilothanks, Doug.

I've built theremins and capacitive switches in the past. You'll
find construction projects for both in Popular Electronics ca.
1967. I think the theremin project was in the November '67 issue,
and the capacitive switch was within the next year.
