[sci.electronics] HP608D Leakage

charlie@oakhill.UUCP (Charlie Thompson) (04/26/87)

In the never-ending search to find the source of leakage in my
HP608D signal generator I have discovered what appears to be
the major source of radiation. There are three shafts passing
through the cast aluminum box. One is unused (older version?),
one is for tuning the output buffer, and one is for tuning
the oscillator frequency. Well, you guessed it, the shaft pas-
sing through the box that is used for oscillator tuning (actually
the grounded shaft of a variable capacitor)is making most of the
problem. In two places on the box is notice saying *do not oil
bearings*....they look oily! My theory is that some oaf in the
airforce tech pool oiled the blasted bearings for the shafts!
Now if you think its a simple matter to get those bearings out
and clean or replace them then drop me a line and tell me about
your experiences! Otherwise if you ever go to buy an old HP608
make sure you check it out electrically first.
