The latest (May 1987) issue of the Hewlett-Packard Jour-
nal contains an article about signaling over power lines.

In "Intrabuilding Data Transmission Using Power-Line Wir-
ing", Robert A. Piety discusses the transfer and noise
characteristics of power lines. A 5 milliwatt spread
spectrum, 100 Kbits/s data transmission system is
   presented.
