I guess that I am due the "wally of the week" award regarding my problem of `clipping' with my TV amplifier (re the posting I made a few weeks ago seeking advice). After dismantling and reconstructing the amplifier a couple of times, and also attenuating the input signal (all to no avail), I reasoned as follows: "The clipping is due to the amplitude of the desired output signal trying to climb greater than the supply voltage, so why not increase the supply from its current 9v to (say) 12v ?" When I tried this (using a different battery), the problem disappeared! Feeling very self-satisfied, I checked the 9v battery, only to find it quite `flat' at 6v. Oh well, they always say to check the obvious bits first. (I was dissuaded from this because the 9v battery in question was only purchased a few months ago (I know about "shelf-life" just in case some readers care to point out this point)). Many thanks to all those who took the time and trouble to reply: the comments were appreciated. If nothing else, I hope this `experience' helps others.
