I have done some research into suppliers for HeNe laser tubes and
thought the information I have might be of interest to you. I also have
some questions which I'll ask later.
The best tube deal was from Halted Specialties in California. I am
Canadaian based and would prefer to deal with-in my own country, but
Halted Specialties had great prices: 2mW tube $75, 5mW tube $125,
power supply kit $43 (all american prices). I contacted Mells Griot,
manufactures of high quality optical products. Their prices:
2mW:$329, 5mW:$540. They also sell a green HeNe 0.2mW for $1200, and an
infared HeNe for $6300 (canadian); these are just for bare tubes, BTW.
Siemens prices are a few dollars off of MG.
So, I am ordering a 5mW from Halted. Questions: the tubes they sell
are made by Laseronics. Halted didn't have any information on the tubes
or an address for Laseronics (kind of strange). Do any of you know
where this company resides (maybe Florida?)? I want to know if these
tubes are good (ie. will they last, are they quality tubes?). The tubes
have lens adjusters on both ends (lens mounted in a triangular piece of
metal with adj screw, perhaps) similar to Spectra Physics tubes. Is
this a feature or a kludge? Any info on Laseronics would be greatly
appreciated.
