I recently moved and so I had to change to a different cable TV service. I thought, "No problem, I have cable-ready TV's and VCR." Well, they hooked me and I hit the "cable" switch on all my equipment. As it turns out, I do have a problem. My TV's and VCR are all 112 channel capability, but it's not enough. The cable service offers the standard 2-13 VHF Lo and Hi plus cable channels 14 - 53. My TV's and VCR get up to about 42 then show either snow or channel 42 on the remaining stations. My roommate has a converter (his TV is not cable ready) and he picks them all up. The neighbor has a 130 channel capability set, and he receives them all fine. I didn't want to get a converter for each piece of equipment, I'd loose the use of my remotes and being able to record more then one channel while I was away. So I decided to invest in a RADIO SHACK cable block converter. Before I bought it I knew I was in for a project, it only moves channels 2-42 to the UHF band. Channel 42 ends up on 83 UHF, it's what I have now. Well, I cracked it open and decided to lower the oscillator frequency. I changed a coil and adjusted the trimmer cap. This moved things enough so I could get the missing 10 or so channels on stations 72-82 UHF. I really don't care about getting everything moved onto UHF, I only want a means to receive the missing 10 channels. My problem now is these last 10 channels are fuzzy. Either the input has a trap for these higher channels or I'm getting harmonic interference from the oscillator or something. I've adjusted the oscillator around but no matter where I put the missing 10 channels, the upper 8 of these are fuzzy, the lower 2 are usually OK. Has anyone attempted this before, have any ideas to bounce around, know of a block converter that will do what I want, or need something to do and would like for me to send a schematic as an exercise ? No ? Can't blame you, I don't know what to do either 8-) ! If nothing else, I'll try to live with the fuzziness. Anyone else have this problem ? ------- ------- ------- Brad Leseberg -====------ -====------ -====------ AT&T Information & -======------ -======------ -======------ Communication Systems --====------- --====------- --====------- 11900 N.
