For you other rabid technophiles out there, Edmund Scientific now offers a superconducting disc. For $20 you can have a disc (made by Tektronix) to demonstrate the Meissner effect with the use of a magnet and some liquid nitrogen (available from a variety of sources including the corridors of Wean Hall). The small but powerful magnets from headphones should work well but Edmund sells them too. Page 5 of their latest Annual Reference Catalog. If you're really gung ho you can by some Yttrium oxide, Barium oxide, copper oxide and cook your own.
