How is 'closed-captioning' transmitted in the video signal? Are there any devices that can read closed-captioned text and output ASCII? I didn't think this was easy, but I recently read the following in "The Media Lab, Inventing the Future at MIT", by Stewart Brand: "The Lab already has a working program called NewsPrint that every night prints out the closed-captioned text of the 'ABC Evening News' along with images it's taken off the air for illustration."
