The High Altitude Observatory of NCAR is attempting to set up an image processing programming and analysis system for our users. We have identified a definite need for an interactive data manipulation language, one that allows varied operations on arrays of data and has graphics capabilities. We currently are experimenting with Zodiac from the Astronomy Dept. of the Univ. of Hawaii, but have found it too slow in a number of areas. Here is a list of what we are aware of: 1. IDL (Interactive Data Language -- Research Systems, Inc.) -- very powerful and fast, but currently only runs on VMS. 2. Zodiac -- comments above 3. IRAF (Interactive reduction and analysis facility? -- Kitt Peak Obs.) -- in pre-release form If anyone out there knows of a system of this type, please contact me via mail or phone.
