I just wanted to say thanks to the number of people that offered assistance with the Genie AT 390 remote control unit I asked about. My question was, "what frequency is it?" It turned out, quite logically, that it is 390 MHz. The remote uses a a pseudo-ramdom square wave modulation that gives its output about a 5 MHz bandwidth!! This wide band modulation made it impractical to measure the carrier fequency accurately on a digital counter. I solved the problem by borrowing a spectrum analyzer from our microwave systems engineer and using a plastic screwdriver to adjust the remote's trimmer cap for a spectrum centered on 390 MHz. Now my remote activates the receiver from about 1/2 block away, rather than a few feet! Thanks to all who offered help whom I couldn't reply to via email. Bill Mayhew NEOUCOM (wtm@neoucom.UUCP)
