[sci.electronics] 3-D scanner or digitizer

nivek@ROVER.RI.CMU.EDU (Kevin Dowling) (11/16/87)

Polhemus Navigation Sciences makes the 3-Space 3-D digitizer system
for 3-D digitizing (They also make the Isotrak for things likes
tracking head movements for heads-up displays and other products
like the DataGlove (See Oct. Sci-American cover)) Anyway it
uses 3 orthognal magnetic coils and a small receiving device
that measures distance and orientation of the device. It measures
position and orientation (6 Degree of freedom) on all three axes.
