A few observations...
First, I wish to thank Larry Campbell, and Larry Dighera for the
'X10' program. I just got it compiled tonight, and it works great!
I did have a problem with the makefile, though. I'm running
Microport 286 2.2. Trying to do the 'make' yielded a 'must be
seperator on line nn' message...??!! I finally discovered that the
makefile's 'action lines' (lines below dependancy lines with the :)
had spaces indenting them, instead of tabs. I don't know why make
complained about this, but someone else may have this problem...
Regarding X10's controller and the 'gotta to full bright to dim' problem...
I remember this being discussed, although I wasn't following
closely then. I understand X10's 'playing it safe' by doing this.
If you want to dim from, say, level 2 to 4 when you're not in
the room if the lamp is not really at level 2 - i.e. someone
manually dimmed after the controller did, so the controller does not
have an accurate picture of what the lamp is really at. Going full
bright guarentees the controller will set the lamp correctly.
My observation is that X10 should have a seperate command code that
would allow you to dim from 2 to 4 directly without going full bright,
(like my old 'ultrasonic manual controller' does) so you have
an option! Also, has anyone out there in netland ever considered
hacking the rom in the controller to avoid this problem?? X10--are
you there???
Thank you for listening to my late-night rambling...
