[net.wanted] Usenet directory and uucp registry - what are they?

Greetings and Salutations to you in net.land.

I have heard of 2 things on the net and would like more information
than just therir names.

What are the "USENET Directory" and the "UUCP Central Registry"?
How do I get on them?  How do I get copies?
