Bug zappers use about 4KV AC transformers with an intergrid spacing of somewhat less than 1cm. Small bugs will form an arc path, get nailed, and fall out; big ones tend to get caught in the grid for a while until they burn up [which is why you occasionally get those *long* zappolas]. Try spitting into one of them if you want to watch it work; you'll notice that the sound contains plenty of its 60Hz drive.. _H*
