[sci.electronics] DRAFIX Deal Extended. Are you interested?

pete@octopus.UUCP (Pete Holzmann) (07/18/88)

With too little notice, I posted a message at the end of June about a
special deal I can get on Drafix. Time ran out before I got any takers.
Now it turns out the deal has been extended through the end of July.
I hope there's enough time to get the message out this time; I'd really
like to get in on this deal!

The deal is: one of my wholesale suppliers (I sell hardware and software)
has a special deal going on Drafix One Plus, the Drafix 3D Extension, and
on Otto (addon that converts between Drafix and DXF format, if you need
that). If I buy a minimum of 4 packages (I thought it was 3 last month,
I was wrong), I can get them for an extra discount price. I don't have lots
of bucks, so deals like this are nice! I'll pass on my cost to anybody that
wants to join me. That includes passing on wholesale pricing for any of
the Drafix add-on packages.

The Product: Drafix is a PC-based CAD package. Very easy to learn, very
powerful. As powerful as AutoCAD except that it doesn't have a
programming language. Has nicer output than AutoCAD. Has very
extensive fancy-text editing capabilities (comes with more than
10 typestyles, all fully sizable, boldable, rotatable, etc.). Lots
of color, linestyles, point shapes, etc. Comes with 450 predefined
symbols (a mix of electronic, architectural, mechanical). The 3D
extension package turns it into a full-blown 3D package with
rendering, etc. There are optional extension libraries containing
more predefined symbols. It does real well at text editing; I plan
to use it for simple (poster) desk-top-publishing stuff.
Used by [from their glossy advertising blurb] Kodak, Ford, GM,
Intel, Motorola, NASA, USGS, Xerox, etc etc. Got rated 'Best 3D CADD'
by PC Magazine (don't know which issue; I'd like to see that myself,
actually). Came out close to the top-rated $3000 packages in Software
Digest Ratings Newsletter (I've got that one); far ahead of Generic
CAD. Came out pretty far ahead of even VersaCADD (another $3K pkg).
	Not copy protected.

Requirements: MSDOS computer, 512-640K RAM, Math Coproc recommended, not req'd.
Works with lots of mice and digitizing tablets. Works with EGA
and extended EGA cards, plus things like the Wyse 700 hi-res mono
monitor, Hercules monographics, AT&T 6300, etc. I don't see VGA
on the list, although they might have it; I haven't asked directly.
Comes with rasterizing drivers for lots of dot matrix printers, also
drives all normal plotters up to C size. An optional add-on supports
	D and E size plotters.

Prices I can get on this deal:
List Cost
$299	$145 Drafix One Plus (counts as '1' towards the needed 4 pkgs)
$299	$145 3D extensions (counts as '1')
$ 99    $ 60 OTTO (AutoCAD DXF format conversion)
$150 $ 90 D, E plotter support option
$150 $ 90 800 Architectural symbols (plan/elev views of misc stuff)
$150 $ 90 500 Electrical/Electronic symbols
$150 $ 90 1400 design engineering symbols (mechanical/machine/structural/
			industrial/etc)

Please send email if you are interested. As far as I know, these prices are
good until the end of July. It might get extended again, but I can't count
on it.
