[sci.electronics] Scanners/Receivers from AOR

cyamamot@castor.usc.edu (Cliff Yamamoto) (10/16/88)

Greetings,
In search of selecting the most full featured and widest-coverage
receiver/scanner, I have narrowed down my choices. One of them, however,
is the AOR AR-3000 which according to ACE Communications in Indpls. is still
only available in Japan, and won't be here till the middle of next year.

Does anyone own an AOR scanner (or simply know) what the address
and ph# of AOR is in Japan? I'd like to find out exactly what the AR-3000
offers and if they'd be willing to ship to the U.S. There's nothing wrong
with the Icom R-7000 (my other choice), but I don't want to run out and buy
one if the AR-3000 equals/surpasses it in features/performance. I know the
AOR is 100kHz to 2 Ghz, but if it doesn't cut it, I'd rather buy a R-7000 AND
a R-71A combo to get the coverage (yes, I have neither a HF receiver or a
decent VHF/UHF scanner, hence my two choices).

As an afterthought, does anyone disagree with my choices? Would it
the Kenwood that covers 60-960 Mhz be better? Would the JIL with all its add
on boxes/converters be better?
