I've gotten a second broken VCR from a friend. Once in a while (while in play mode) it just stops. The power is still on and it takes 2-3 tries hitting the play button before it stays in play mode. SHARP model VC581U Anyone have any ideas? PS once in a while (while in play mode) it jitters (for .5 seconds) like its going to stop but doesn't. PS frequence varies from once in 4-5 hours to once in 15 minutes!!!

I had that problem with a cassette tape deck once. It turned out that the "end-of-tape" sensing mechanism was too sensitive. A fine adjustment by the dealer fixed it. (It was relatively new) I found that running new tapes through it was more successful than older tapes, until it was fixed.
