[sci.electronics] subminiature din-8 female connectors

hovan@bgsuvax.UUCP (John Hovan) (10/28/88)

Has anyone found a source that sells the subminiature din-8 female connectors
found on the newer Macintosh Serial ports?? I would like to build a switch
box, but I haven't been able to locate the connectors. The male subminiature
connecters are sold by MCM electronics in Dayton, Ohio.

Thank you for any help you may offer,

Well, you might try ORA Electronics in Chatsworth, CA. Their number is:
(800) 423-5336. They have a most interesting catalog with lots of Computer
stuff, audio/video/telephone stuff, etc. I might also add that they have
a four-way switch box specifically for Mac DIN-8 stuff that sells for $30.
Note that they are a wholesale distributor, and I'm not sure what their
policy is concerning individuals or schools. However, I'm sure you can
call and find out. I've been dealing with them (through my consulting
business) for almost five years now, and have been very happy. Any orders
in before 3pm ship out the same day, and you know on the phone what is in
stock and what is not (usually everything is in stock).

Try contacting a video parts dealer who deals in Hitachi parts.
There is a miniature 8 pin connector on a Hitachi
camcorder that may be what you are looking for. The
part is a Hitachi 5883581, is a female 8 contact bulkhead
connector already wired up to some kind of single-in-line connector like
plugs into a circuit board.
