A friend of mine is bothered by minor noises when she is trying to sleep (birds, rain, cosmic radiation, etc) and frequently runs a fan in her bedroom to drown out distractions. I recall from time-to-time encountering articles and ads for various types of noise generators intended for people with the above problems. The simplest ones (as I recall) just amplified the hash from a reverse-biased zener; more elaborate systems had filters with time-varying passbands to produce surf sounds. I would like to track down one of these doodads. If you know of (a) commercial products, (b) kits, or (c) construction articles, I would appreciate a note. If someone else wishes this information, mail me a note and I'll forward the results. Grazi.

This is in response to the person requesting information on "surf generators". PAIA in Oklahoma City, OK used to make these, along with machines that made wind chime sounds, rain sounds, and others. I don't know if they still make these kits or not. I've been thinking about getting a catalog and building the wind chime kit. You can probably get the address from directory assistance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark A Johnson Eastman Kodak Company - SISD UUCP: rochester!kodak!elmgate!mj USPS: 222 Norman Road, Rochester NY 14623 WORK: (716) 726-7035 "Why is it, whenever I see Dan Quayle, I feel like buying a vowel?" - Emo "Quidquid latine dictum, altum videtur."
