[sci.electronics] LCD clock mods - for 24 hour format

wwg@brambo.UUCP (Warren W. Gay) (12/06/88)

I've been looking for a cheap, off the shelf digital clock to keep
(you guessed it), UTC time. However, the new clocks don't seem to
have a 24 hour format option/switch. What's worse, the store people
don't even know what 24 hour format is!! I had one sales guy say "ya,
sure. Its got the AM light here, and the PM light there...". Grrrrrr!!!!

My guess is that *all* of them are capable of 24 hour format. Just requires
one pin to be grounded or tied high. But I don't want to spend $20 to
find out that it has an unrecognizable Japaneez part # in it.

My preference is for a *big* LCD clock, due to lower currents thus less RFI.
So my question is:

What makes can be easily modified to show 24 hour format, and which
pins are involved? Surely several of you have already been through
this... so *gasp*, *help*...

		Tnx in advance.

Modify the clock? Why? Radio Shack has a 12/24 hour Digital LED
clock (part # 63-805) with a 1.8" display. It seems to fit the bill
for what yo want.
