[sci.electronics] radio interference on intercom

lou@bearcat.rutgers.edu (Lou Steinberg) (12/14/88)

I have an el-cheapo intercom. It consists of two handsets plus about
30 feet of (3-conductor) wire. The problem is that in addition to the
voice from the other end, you pick up a local AM radio station (1440,
I think), which is rather annoying. The handset contains about 3
transistors and a dozen or so resistors, capacitors, etc. Is there
anything I can do to reduce the interference, short of somehow
shielding the wire? Some sort of filter I can add where the sire
enters the handset?

I should note that we are fairly close to the transmitter for this
station - maybe a mile or so.

Thanks for any pointers. Please respond by email, as I do not manage
to keep up with this newsgroup with any regularity.
