[sci.electronics] Looking for information on spectrum analysis chips

I have a need to perform real time spectrum analysis on an audio signal. A
friend said that he had heard about at least one chip that would do this
for me without the hassle of programming a DSP system for an FFT or the need
to build a filter bank of analog filters. He thought that the chip might
have been a ASA-16 (sixteen channels?). Does anybody know anything about this
particular chip or any others which will simplify the problem of spectral
analysis?

Thanks for your help,
J.R.

If you want a complete instrument, several such are available. For a chip
which is preprogrammed to do real-time FFT's, you might try an Austek
A41102 (article in EE Times, 11/28/88) Article didn't mention Austek's
address, but the article was apparently submitted by "David Taylor
