If so, who and what is the part number? The November 7th issue of Electronic Engineering Times mentions such a new chip set being offered by SGS-Thomson. The six-chip set supports CCITT v.32. The design kit is part number TS7532, and consists of three preprogrammed digital signal processors and a trio of modem-analog-fornt-end (MAFE) chips. The Modem signal-processing functions are implemented on the three TS68930 general-purpose programmable DSPs, while the front-end transmit, receive and clock generation are performed by the TS68950/51/52. The preprogrammed DSPs handle echo cancellation (TS75320), receiver functions with adaptive equalization and the Veterbi decoder (TS75322) and transmitter handshaking with the processor (TS75321). Apart from the external RAMs to store echo cancelling coefficients and Viterbi sequences, the chip set needs no external devices to establish a complete interface between the control processor and the telephone line. The 75320 echo canceler is programmed to cope with near and far-end echo conditions on the transmission channel. It cancels both even in the presence of a frequency offset of 10 Hz in the far-end echo path. SGS-Thompson also offers a range of software and hardware development tools. The company is in the process of converting the NMOS DSPs to CMOS and is considering putting the MAFE on each DSP. The high-density DSPs are expected in early part 1990. The six-chip set costs $150 in OEM quantities. Call John J.
