[sci.electronics] Component allows n>16-bit digital audio

mark@mips.COM (Mark G. Johnson) (01/24/89)

For those who believe "if 16-bit digital audio is good, n-bit digital
audio must be even better" (n>16), there is a new product that you
may be interested in.

It's a dual (2 of em in the same package) digital-to-analog converter
rated at 200kHz update rate (CD == 44.1 kHz, DAT == 48 kHz) and 20-bit
precision.

Yep, that's right, 20 bits. That means 1 LSB = 1/1048576-th of fullscale.
0.954 parts per million.

The device is the DAC 20200 from Ultra Analog Inc. Price mentioned in the
article is $199 in quantities of 100.
