I'm looking for info on the latest speech synthesis chips. I need to have a library of words and be able to access them randomly. The sound quality would have to be somewhere between robotic sounding and purely natural. Also I need to have the program and speech stored in no larger than a 512K bit rom. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, -- Robert Zeff (209) 577-4268 work, 577-8548 FAX ZAPCO 2549 Yosemite Blvd Ste. NEC Electronics sells a line of speech synthesis components with varying amounts of internal ROM. Specifically, uPD7755 96 Kbits ( ~ 4 seconds) uPD7756 256 KBits ( ~ 11 seconds) uPD7757 512 KBits ( ~ 22 seconds) In addition there is the uPD7759 with no internal ROM, but which addresses 1 MBit of external memory for approximately 45 seconds of speech. Each of these parts can randomly address up to 256 different words or phrases. NEC has a pre-recorded library of over 350 words and sounds (including DTMF signals and dial tone) or you can encode (or have NEC encode) your own vocabulary. For doing your own speech encoding, NEC sells an NV-300 development system which consists of a PC/AT card and software that allows you to digitize and edit speech (or other sounds of your choosing). Sound quality with these parts is quite high quality with bandwidth limited to below 4 KHz. By reducing the sampling rates, the times shown above can be increased, but with reduced speech quality.
