[sci.electronics] HOBBIT's Fisher Amp

micl23@inuxm.UUCP (W E Miller) (02/02/89)

Sorry, I don't know your name, Hobbit...

I sent a reply to you via email, but it may have
bounced. I have a manual for the Fisher CA-65. I
will make a copy of it if you'll send me a $3 check
or money order, to WILLIAM E. MILLER at the address
below. (I'm not greedy, I just don't want to waste
my time if you're not really interested).

In the mean time, call MCM Electronics at 1-800-
543-4330 and ask them to send you a catalog. They
have good parts, prices, COD service, and they're
fast. They can supply the parts you'll need to fix
your amp. (Other companies may be as good, but we
<not AT&T, me> use MCM).

Now as far as the amp goes, I would first replace all
the other transistors you haven't swapped, namely
Q110,109,108,107,106 (if the left channel is bad), or
Q210,209,208,207,206 (for the right). These and the
ones you said you replaced are DC-coupled and should
be replaced in every case to be sure. No matter how
tempting, don't sub.

Now check the small-signal diodes, then look at the
fusible resistors (ARRRRGH!). They are (for the left)
R140 82ohm,R148 82ohm,R149 33ohm,R141 33ohm,R171 2.2ohm,
and R172 2.2 ohm. (Up these to R_2_40, etc. for right).

What it looks like is R172, R149, or R148 may b open,
in that order of likelihood. Or Q109 is shorted. If you
haven't turned or removed the pot, VR101(201), don't
move it. If you have replaced it, set the new one to the
center of its travel.

When you do get this thing going, be sure to set the
idle current. Instructions for this are in the manual.

Good luck - let us know.
