Thank you to everyone who responded to my problem with an ADC0820 that was heating up. With the advice I recieved I finally found the cause of the problem. I'm posting the cause in case there are any other poor uneducated souls out there who might have similar problems. The way I have the chip connected has several of the i/o lines tied directly to a port on my computer, with the chip itself powered externally. If any logic signals are going into the chip when Vcc is applied, the chip goes into a self-destruct mode. What this means is I simply have to make sure I apply power to the chip before turning on the computer, and be sure there aren't any interruptions to Vcc while it's operating. Thanks again for all the advice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Ludtke stevel@tybalt.caltech.edu ..!cit-vax!tybalt.caltech.edu!stevel stevel@citiago (Bitnet) OBS949 (Amer PPl lnk) 72335,1537 (Compuserve) XJM16487 (Genie)
