I noticed that broadcast radio and TV stations east of the Mississippi river have Wxxx and west have Kxxx. Why doesn't the FCC issue Nxxx calls to broadcast stations? And AAxx-AKxx calls? (I could imagine a rock station with the call NERD :-) ) 73 de WA2ISE

Nxxx calls are used by the Navy and Marine Corps, AAxx - ALxx calls are used by the Army and Air Force. Along with some of the calls from the Kxxx and Wxxx blocks -- for example, WAR, AIR, NPG, etc. On the other hand, once upon a time, N#xxx calls were Navy/Marine MARS, and A#xxx were Army/Air Force MARS, so you never know... 73 wn3vaw
