If your player has a serial input for computer control, it can be done.
Usually this will be a 9- or 25-pin socket marked "Remote", "Computer",
or "Serial" or some such. the control protocol, baud rate, etc. will be in the user docs. There is a Voyager Stack
which was written for videodisk players. it is customizable and could be modified for audio players.

Thanks, Chuck. My player has a jack marked "control," but no 9- or 25-pin socket. I think the jack is for a wire remote. Any way to use that for computer control?
Is the Voyager Stack a public domain stack? Where would I find it?

I expect you're right about the wire remote. as to how to hook it to a mac, you'll need to get a schematic of the hardware before a decision can be made about the Mac.
I may have a copy of Voyager. I don't remember if it's PD, I'll check.
