You can tune in a station that is heterodyning with an adjacent station and contains a lot of phase distortion, then enable the synchronous detector, and it is instantly intelligible and the beat note disappears. There is absoultly no question that this feature alone distinguishes this receiver from its peers which lack it. If you are planing on purchasing a receiver for AM listing, make sure it has a synchronous detector.
