[sci.electronics] DAT technical info needed

kiely@lownlab.harvard.edu (James P. Kiely) (05/18/89)

I am trying to get technical information on Digital Audio Tape
machines. I am interested in all aspects of their operation
and particularly in the error correction techniques that they
use. I have found a number of references to publications by
a consortium of DAT manufacturers called "The DAT Conference"
but I have been unable to find a address for the consortium.
The two documents that I have seen referenced are "Recommended
Design Standard R-DAT", April 1986 and "Recommended Design
Standard S-DAT", July 1985. Does anyone know where I can get
these documents? Does anyone have an address and/or phone
number for "The DAT Conference"?

My interest is in the possible application of portable DAT recorders
as medical/laboratory data recorders. Does anyone know of a
manufacturer that offers a portable DAT recorder that might be
useful for such a project?

Please respond via email. If you absolutely must post a follow-up
please post it to "sci.electronics". I will summarize all responses
to both "sci.electronics" and "rec.audio". Thanks.
