[sci.electronics] Need VCR head theory of operation

How is the electrical signal taken out of the vcr rotating head? Is is
inductive, capacitive, inductive, slip rings etc?

Also, how is the audio taken off the tape? I can understand the audio coming
off of a separate linear track. But someone told me that some machines
put the audio down on the helical track. This would appear to me to be
extremely difficult to achieve. It would be hard to get scan to scan
closure without some audible artifact.

My machine uses slip rings and brushes to get the signal off the head
unit. As far as audio, the heads look very similar to standard audio
heads on cassette recorders. But then, I could be wrong.
Hope this helps.

-*- The above is in no way connected with my employer. They're too
cheap to buy a modem!
