Since nobody has mentioned it, I guess I will. A few years ago I built a number of things for my truck. These included digital guages for oil pressure, system voltage, engine temperature, inside/outside temperature. These can be bought commercially (though expensive) thru different mail order houses. In addition, I used the sprague fluid sensor chips to monitor different liquid levels (radiator, ww washer) and alarm if they fell below a level. In Arizona this isn't really needed, but I have seen somewhere a project for a road icing alert using infared tx/rx setup. Also digital speedometers using hall effect sensors for a pickup, run thru some signal conditioning and scaled, digital tachs. Of course, this could be all done by a small 6800 type processor using ADC and DAC's, displayed on a LCD monitor. Sorry, I keep refining my ideas. I'll stop where I am at.
