[net.wanted] N.J. Auto Insurance Advice

mro@ihuxf.UUCP (10/11/83)

I am going to be relocating in N.J. early next year and am interested
in finding out as much as I can about the auto insurance situation in
the state, and in particular what I can do before I move to minimize
my insurance costs (e.g. change to a company which will cover me in N.J.)
All I have heard is horror stories of how much I can expect my rates
to increase. My initial inquires confirm this situation -- one agency
that I called quoted me a rate of over $1300 dollars to duplicate my
existing coverage in Illinois (currently costs me $600). I am reconciled
to the fact that my cost will increase, but am eager for any advice
anyone can offer to minimize the increase.

Having been there a few times (business trips only!),
my advice is to buy a tank, not a car.
