[sci.electronics] American Receiver in the U.K.

pfinley@cipc1.Dayton.NCR.COM (Pat Finley) (09/06/89)

I have an older am/fm receiver (circa 1974 - Panasonic). If I take the
receiver to the U.K., would a voltage transformer (220/110 I think) be
sufficient to allow me to use my receiver, speakers and CD player at a
standard U.K. electrical outlet? (U.K. stands for United Kingdom, for those
of you not in the know...) Also, by voltage transformer I am assuming that
the voltage coming from the outlet (220 or 240) would be converted by the
voltage transformer to 110/115 so that it could be used by my receiver.

BTW, my PC has a switchable Power Supply (110/220). Is it sufficient to get an
adapter for the plug for the main unit or do I need additional hardware. I am
assuming that the monitor would need a voltage transformer just like the
stereo receiver.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Please e-mail me at the above address -
my net account has expired. Thanks in advance.
