[sci.electronics] Info on designing IBM PC/AT compatible board needed

tac@sei.cmu.edu (Timothy Coddington) (09/08/89)

I'm looking for some information on the IBM AT bus. I need a
source/reference on the closest thing to a bus spec. In
particular, if someone has any application notes on building IBM AT
compatible boards that would be great!

There are probably conventions for configuring and interfacing to AT
boards. That kind of informations would be very useful, since I want
my board to work in any IBM AT compatible.

Any pointers to where I can get a copy of the spec or information would
be greatly appreciated. I'm sure there have been articles covering this
   subject some where.

Also, I'd like to correspond by email with anyone who has done this.

I have a book called "Interfacing to the IBM Personal Computer" by
Lewis Eggebrecht, published by Howard W. Sams (Indianapolis, IN), $16.95.

It has chapters on the microprocessor, bus cycles, system bus signal descriptions,
timings, mechanical and power specs, DMA, high speed transfer, etc.

I've found it quite helpful; it has "typical" circuits, as well.
Sams books are widely available; I got mine at a local computer store.
I'm sure you could mail order from Indianapolis, worst case.
