Slowing down tape speed kills the frequency response. Playback of any pre-recorded tape will be very poor and very low in tone. Like taking a record for 45 RPM and playing it at 33 RPM, you get the wow wow effect. If you intend to record at half speed, you will get very poor quality, as it will not store the higher notes. I have a reel to reel unit that offers 3 1/2, 7 and 15 inches per second on tape speed. At 3 1/2, higher notes go down the drain. al irwin Univ of ILL Dept of Comp Sci irwin@m.cs.uiuc.edu
