I have a 2 year old CDB-650 cd player, with a few mods, including the Audio mods, and part of the Audio Amateur Mods. It has worked flawlessly, never having a single tracking problem. I leave the cd player and my amp (an Adcom 555) on all the time, except for times when I will be away for more than a day or so. The pre-amp is just a passive volume/balance box I made with premium components. This morning I put a cd in the player, hit the PLAY button, and only clicks and pops came out of the speakers. It was a new cd, so I thought "oh, I finally got a bad cd!", so I put an old, reliable cd into the player. The same bad sounds came out. Well, I unplugged the rest of the stereo and listened through the headphones. Same bad sounds. I have opened it and looked at the boards; nothing looks amiss. I was hoping for an obviously blown part but no such luck. I have the service manual, but most of the test points require a scope and logic probe -- that is the next step. Does anyone have know what could cause this problem? What steps should I take to isolate the problem? Help me, please!! I am a poor student, and I will not be able to hire a real, expensive service man.
