Recently my 2-3 year old 13" color TV (made by KTV) has been getting a bit flakey. At first, the vertical retrace started going ou, ie the entire picture was on a singal horizontal line at the center of the screen. Rapping the TV lightly on the side usually fixed the problem temporarily. Well, the TV is a hi-tech model, with A/V in out, stereo, remote control, etc ... After about a week of the vertical problem, it began ocassionally going out completely. That is, the channel indicator would go out, no picture, no sound, but the power light and the mono audio light remained on. Again, a light blow brought it back to life. Well, recently the problem's been getting worse. I'm usually pretty good at debugging circuit boards, etc ... even without a schematic sometimes, but TV's aren't my specialty. I've opened it up and looked for loose cables, obviously burnt out components, and I've rotated all the mini pots slightly in case there was a buildup and disconnected/reconnected many cables. I've noticed only 2 things that seem unusual to me. 1. There is a focus and a "picture" control built in to the flyback x-former. I'm not quite sure what "picture" does. 2. The suction cup with the HV cable going into it on the side of the picture tube seems quite loose. I push it down again, and it loosens up in a few hours. I'm not sure if this is normal or not ... If anyone who's familiar with the workings of TV's knows of some common problem causing one or more of the above, I'd appreciate it if you could send me some suggestions. I don't know where it start, and I'd hate to toss such a nice TV. (btw, feel free to respond by email to save net bandwidth unless this is a more common problem than I thought ...)
