Anyone have any experience or data using the Radio Shack BarCode Reader on computers other than the Model 100 it was designed for? I would especially like to get a pinout diagram of the connecter. Can anyone help? Greg White

The following is a *guess*, so use the information with caution. I believe that the Model 100 used an "industry standard" 9-pin subminiature D-connector interface for a bar code wand. Bar code wands fall into three categories: (1) analog output; (2) digital output (NOT decoded); and (3) "smart" with a serial decoded output. The analog output variety generally use a 5-pin DIN connector, and the digital output variety generally use a 9-pin D-connector with the following pinout and functions (as viewed by the wand): Pin 2 Wand output; a TTL line sunk to ground, usually with an open-collector transistor. Pin 7 Ground Pin 9 Supply voltage, usually +5 volts All other pins are unused. For further information, consult an H-P Optoelectronics Catalog and look at the HEDS-3000 digital bar code wand. Bear in mind that I *believe* that the Model 100 uses the above digital wand interface, but that I am not 100% certain. <> Larry Lippman @ Recognition Research Corp. - Uniquex Corp. - Viatran Corp. <> UUCP {allegra|boulder|decvax|rutgers|watmath}!sunybcs!kitty!larry <> TEL 716/688-1231 | 716/773-1700 {hplabs|utzoo|uunet}!/ \uniquex!larry <> FAX 716/741-9635 | 716/773-2488 "Have you hugged your cat today?"

The pinout is industry standard... Quoted from the standard model 100 manual (now that I'm becoming an expert on the model 100 :--) ): PIN Symbol Description 1 NC 2 RxDB Receive data from bar code reader 3 NC 4 NC 5 GND Ground 6 NC 7 GND Ground 8 NC 9 VDD +5 I have never used the bar code reader, though. I know Radio Shack publishes programs in bar code format. I have the standard manual, and the Tech Ref manual, complete with schematics, and theory, if you need to ask any questions... Cheers!
