[sci.electronics] Capacitance Meters

adams@swbatl.UUCP (4237) (12/19/89)

I'm looking for recommendations on Cap and LCR meters. I've been
eyeing two Elenco meters: the CM-1500 Cap meter ($58.95 .1pF - 20,000uF)
and the LC-1800 LCR ($125 .1 pF - 200 uF, 1uH - 200H, .01-20M Ohms)
advertised in all the hobby rags by C&S sales of Deerfield, IL
800-292-7711 (pp34 Jan90 Radio Electronics).

I really like the range and price on the CM-1500, but also like the
idea of an inductance meter in the same box. I figure I can use
known cap values in series to stay in range, so all I'd really give up
with the more expensive unit is a little convenience. Am I missing
something here? Has someone opinions of Elenco or C&S to share?
Anyone with other suggestions? Please speak up.

Oh... I've seen various schematics for homebrew cap meters, even bought
most of the parts for one. I'm too lazy. Perhaps, some day I'll use a
commercial unit to calibrate a homebuilt one :) .
